Laburnum

Characteristics:    
One of the darker British timbers.
Laburnum makes beautiful mushrooms and goblets.

Lignum vitae (South American)

 
Dark grey-brown wood with light green streaks and a pale yellow sapwood    
     
Characteristics:    

Possibly the world's hardest and densest timber.
As Lignum is quite oily, a planed piece will look polished.

Caution: Can blunt tool edges quickly. Only use well-sharpened tools.
